Post Treatment Instructions:
- Cleanse 2x daily with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil Gentle Facial Cleanser. Skin should always be patted dry & never rubbed.
- Apply antibiotic ointment- bacitracin to the wound 2x a day for 6 days. Finish with a layer of Aquaphor healing ointment on top, to “seal in” the antibiotic cream.
- If a dressing was applied in our office, you may gently remove it after 1 day. If you notice a small amount of blood, this is normal. However, do call our office if you see any active bleeding and/or large amounts of blood.
- If Steri Strips were applied in our office, they are breathable and can remain on skin for a few days. They typically fall off on their own, or can be gently removed after 3-4 days.
- Ice, cold compresses, or soft gel ice packs can be used for 10-15 minutes every 1-2 hours and continued for the next 24-48 hours to reduce swelling.
- It is very important that you use sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen should offer broad spectrum protection (UVA/UVB), have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 or more, and be used daily. If direct sun exposure is necessary, wear a hat and clothing that covers the treated area. Diligent sun protection and sunscreen use may lower the risk of post procedural hyperpigmentation and other complications.
- Silicone based scar gel can be applied after 2 weeks.
