Surgical Procedures

Fat transfer, the act of taking fat from one part of the body and replacing it in another, is becoming a popular technique in plastic surgery today. Fat transfer involves a combination of liposuction to remove isolated pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. The fat is then purified to prepare it for injection into areas requiring augmentation. Dr. Dilip Madnani offers fat transfer for a variety of purposes, since he is able to customize the procedure to the unique needs of the individual patient.

  • Madnani Facial Plastics is your premier center for surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. Led by board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Dilip Madnani, the medical professionals at Madnani Facial Plastics are proud to offer cutting-edge cosmetic treatments to men and women in Manhattan, Long Island and the neighboring communities in New York.

About The Procedure

Fat transfer can be used to restore volume or enhance any of the following areas:

  • Under eye hollows
  • Cheek hollows
  • Nasolabial and marionette lines (lines from the nose to the mouth and mouth to jaw)
  • Jowls
  • Chin
  • Lips
  • Temples

Fat transfer provides the double benefits of adding volume to one area and at the same time, a transfer of stem cells is also performed which results in a healthy rejuvenation of the overlying skin. The procedure is often performed alone, but can be combined with other cosmetic treatments like skin resurfacing, facelift or eyelid surgery.

The first step in the fat transfer process is the removal of fat tissue via a procedure known as liposuction. Dr. Madnani performs the procedure using local anesthesia. Entry points are made to insert a narrow tube called a cannula directly into fat pockets. The cannula gently loosens and removes fat cells.

The fat is then purified to prepare it for injection. Injections are strategically placed in different layers and different parts of the face to achieve the desired results. There are no incisions needed to perform this part of the treatment.

Fat transfer is performed in Dr. Madnani’s office in a single treatment session on an outpatient basis. Most patients are able to return to work within 5-7 days after the procedure. Any mild discomfort can be managed with oral pain medication administered over the first few post-op days.

Results of fat transfer can be seen right away. Fat transfer offers long-term volumization that may last many years before any type of touch-up procedure is required.

Dr. Madnani performs a variety of fat transfer procedures in his office, with the ability to tailor the procedure to the unique needs of each patient. To learn more about the fat transfer process, contact Dr. Madnani’s office at (332) 216-0176.
