Non-Surgical Procedures

Juvederm is a soft tissue filler that is used to smooth away signs of aging like fine lines and deeper facial creases. The hyaluronic acid-based solution contains the same sugar produced naturally by the human body to help the skin retain moisture and a supple feel. The formula has been approved by the FDA for treatment of some wrinkles and is frequently used off label to treat other moderate to severe facial creases.

Downtime: 0-3 days

Although Juvederm can be used to treat a wide range of aging concerns, it is primarily used for the following:

  • Nasolabial Folds – lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Marionette Lines – creases that run from the mouth to the jawline
  • Cheek hollows- to lift ‘dropping’ cheeks
  • Creases that appear around the corners of the mouth

Juvederm can be used alone or in conjunction with other dermal fillers or other cosmetic treatments to maximize results. For example, Juvederm might be combined with skin rejuvenation procedures like laser resurfacing or microdermabrasion.

Juvederm injections are carefully placed where they can support the underlying skin structure and smooth away wrinkles from the inside out. Most patients report little or no discomfort with the treatments, but topical numbing cream is available for sensitive areas or for patients worried about the level of discomfort involved. The number of injections will depend on the size of the treatment area and the depth of the wrinkle. Most Juvederm treatments take less than 15 minutes to complete.

Results of Juvederm may be seen right away, although mild swelling at injection sites may occur. Results continue to improve in the days following the procedure. Juvederm treatments typically last up to six months, although some patients may be able to go as long as nine months before a touch-up treatment is required.
