Pre-Post Botox/Injectables Care Sheet

Pre-Treatment Instruction:

  • Avoid alcohol for 1-2 days prior to the procedure.
  • Discontinue the use of blood thinners 2-3 days before the procedure.
  • If taking Warfarin, it is recommended to stop taking it 5 days prior to the procedure.
  • Please consult with your prescribing physician before discontinuing your blood thinners.
  • Do NOT schedule your procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is NOT safe for you to undergo any cosmetic injections.
  • To decrease bruising, we recommend taking Arnica Montana one day prior to your treatment, and 3 days post-treatment.
  • If you have a history of fever blisters/cold sores, be sure to let your provider know. A course of antiviral medication may be sent to your pharmacy.
  • If possible, arrive without creams or make up on the treatment area. Otherwise please arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to properly have your skin cleansed. Cleansing products are available for your convenience.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • With every injectable treatment, you can expect some degree of bruising and/or swelling after injectables.
  • The intensity and duration of these side effects depend on your injectable procedure as well as individual healing characteristics. Swelling from Lip Filler tends to last the longest and can take up to 2 weeks for swelling to subside.
  • Bruising may not always occur, but swelling almost always occurs. This is expected and normal. It is your body’s natural response to healing after an injury.
  • Ice, cold compresses, or soft gel ice packs can be used for 10-15 minutes every 1-2 hours and continued for the next 24-48 hours to reduce swelling & ease discomfort.
  • It is not uncommon for the treated area to feel tender or “sore” for a couple days post treatment. Avoid NSAIDs, e.g. Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin. Stick with Tylenol to relieve any discomfort
  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Although rare, you do not want any product to migrate from it’s injection site.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 12 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face/ injection site for 3-4 days after treatment.
  • Do not allow glasses or hats to press on the treatment area for at least 6 hours post treatment.
  • Do not touch or apply makeup to the treated area for at least 4 hours after treatment. Be sure to wash your hands clean before touching your face to avoid any risk of infection. Gentle washing of the treated area at this time is okay.
  • Be sure to drink plenty of water after filler injections. Drinking water will keep your skin hydrated and will enhance the effect of hyaluronic acid fillers.
  • We recommend sleeping slightly elevated (adding one extra pillow) for the first day or two after filler injections to reduce swelling.
  • Allow up to 2 full weeks for neurotoxins to kick in.
  • A follow up appointment in 2 weeks is recommended to evaluate treatment response.
  • If you experience any signs of infection, fevers, cold sores, increased pain, or blanching/redness, please contact our office immediately.

You will also receive a message from Klara our texable number asking how you are doing and if you have any questions or concerns. Please feel free to respond to that message and a staff member will get back to you in our next business hours.
