Why Fall is the Best Time for Your Procedure

Why Fall is the Best Time for Your Procedure

Fall has officially arrived, have you booked your plastic surgery yet? There are a number of reasons to go under the knife this time of year. With many benefits to be gained, make this fall the season when you finally reach those aesthetic goals you have been putting off. We have five good reasons why fall is the best time to schedule your plastic surgery.

More Time Off

Many people find that fall is a relatively easy time to take off from work, after the rush of summer vacations and before the bustle of the holiday season. Many businesses actually slow down by the holidays, making time off more available to employees. Since some plastic surgery procedures require 1-3 weeks of recovery time, the ability to take sufficient time off to heal ensures your procedure is both as safe and successful as possible.

Good Time for a Staycation

When you book a plastic surgery procedure during the summer months, it can be difficult to take time away from all the outdoor activities. When the temperatures cool off in the fall, spending those days indoors recuperating can be a lot more inviting. This is a pleasant time of year to curl up in front of the fire with a book or binge watch your favorite television show under your favorite afghan.

Easier to Hide the Healing

Plastic surgery involves incisions, bandages and healing time, which can all be a dead giveaway you had a cosmetic procedure. When the temperatures cool down and the jeans and sweaters come out, it is much easier to conceal those telltale signs under cool weather clothing. You can even grab a scarf, hat or gloves to hide incisions, swelling and bruising during the recovery process.

Get (or Give) the Gift of Beauty

Plastic surgery can be pricey and insurance does not typically cover procedures done strictly for cosmetic reasons. If you plan your procedure near the holidays, you might be able to get that special someone to give you at least a portion of the procedure as a gift. Keep in mind this is also a good time of year to offer the gift of plastic surgery to someone you care about that you know has specific aesthetic goals they would like to meet. Most plastic surgeons provide the ability to purchase gift certificates that can be used by a recipient.

Greet the New Year in Style

Depending on the specific procedure you decide to undergo, you can be completely healed up within a matter of weeks. This means that if you schedule your procedure now, you may be ready to flaunt your new look in time for New Year’s Eve. Even if you book a bit later in the season, you can rest assured you will be recovered in time for your spring break adventure.

Fall is an opportune time for plastic surgery for a number of reasons. Dr. Madnani offers a variety of procedures at his Manhattan office, giving his New York City patients options to help them reach all of their aesthetic goals. What is the Proper Age to Begin Anti-Aging Treatments?

What is the Proper Age to Begin Anti-Aging Treatments?

Plastic surgery has traditionally been linked to advancing age, as patients have primarily used these procedures to restore a youthful appearance. However, today’s cosmetic procedures, including those dubbed “anti-aging” treatments are used at increasingly younger ages as those patients are beginning to tune into the benefits of these procedures as well. Dr. Madnani has a few basic guidelines on the best time to begin some of these popular treatments.

The Aging Process

It can be difficult to set an age in stone as to when to begin your anti-aging regimen. This is because the skin ages at very different rates, depending on a variety of factors. Some of those factors might include:

  • Genetics
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Diet and exercise
  • Stress
  • Sun exposure
  • Excessive facial expressions
  • Smoke and other pollutants

For some men and women, the aging process may begin quite early, so they will see visible signs by the time they celebrate their 30th birthday. Others may not become bothered by lines and facial laxity until their 40s or even later. The best gauge for when to start anti-aging treatments is the condition of your skin, not the candles on your birthday cake.

Age for Most Treatments

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 40 percent of all cosmetic procedures performed in 2015 were on patients between the ages of 35 and 50. Another 30 percent of all patients fell between the ages of 51 and 64. Liposuction was the most popular procedure in both of these age groups. Facial procedures included eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty. Non-surgical treatments are also popular among these age groups, particularly injectable treatments like Botox and dermal fillers.

Treatments in the 30s

Signs of aging may begin to appear in the 30s, but they are usually fairly subtle and do not require the most invasive treatments to produce the best results. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists the following cosmetic procedures as the most performed among this group in 2015:

  • Rhinoplasty
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Botox injections
  • Dermal fillers
  • Microdermabrasion

Treatments in the 40s

By the time most people hit their 40s, the signs of aging are probably a bit more prevalent. Surgical procedures are required more frequently at this point to achieve full desired results. Popular procedures for this age group include:

  • Eyelid surgery
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Facelift
  • Botox and dermal fillers
  • Chemical peels

Treatments in the 50s and Beyond

By the time patients hit 55, aging symptoms have usually become more pronounced. The menu of cosmetic treatments is shifting more to surgical procedures, although some non-surgical treatments can still produce positive results for some patients. The most common treatments for this age group include:

  • Eyelid surgery
  • Facelift
  • Forehead lift
  • Botox and dermal fillers
  • Chemical peels

Versatile Treatments Appeal to All Ages

While treatments like Botox and dermal fillers are typically recognized for their anti-aging benefits, they can also be used to effectively enhance facial contours and features without surgery. For this reasons, patients as young as their 20s may pursue these treatments to correct a gummy smile, augment the lips or correct a host of asymmetries.

Which lift is right for you?

Know Your Lift: Which One is Right for You?

Lifts are surgical procedures designed to take years off your appearance by firming the skin and smoothing away facial lines. There are many different types of lift procedures available today, which can make it difficult to know which procedure will provide you with the best possible results. To make your choice a bit easier, we have provided the basic lift procedures we offer, along with their specific benefits.

Mini Lift

A mini facelift is a procedure often recommended to patients between the ages of 40 and 60 with some of the preliminary signs of aging. This procedure is less invasive than a full facelift, but also does not produce quite the dramatic results of a traditional facelift procedure. The surgery tends to focus on the mid and lower areas of the face. A mini lift is a good option for treating the following concerns:

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity around the midface
  • The beginning formation of jowls along the jawline
  • More significant facial wrinkles in the middle and lower face
  • Loss of definition to the cheekbones and jawline

This procedure is also performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia in most cases. Incisions for this procedure are smaller than those used during a full facelift and are usually disguised within the hairline or around the natural skin folds of the ear. The procedure involves less discomfort and typically a shorter recovery period than a traditional facelift procedure.

Facelift

A full facelift is more invasive than a mini lift, but will offer the most dramatic and longest-lasting results in the mid and lower face areas. A full facelift will address the same concerns as a mini lift, including sagging skin in the mid-face, the formation of jowls along the jawline and deep facial creases around the nose and mouth. This procedure will also begin to treat skin laxity of the neck, reducing the appearance of horizontal lines known as platysmal bands that appear on the neck over time.

Like the mini lift, full facelifts also uses incisions placed inside the hairline and around the ear to reposition underlying tissue and muscle, while removing redundant skin and creating a smoother, firmer facial profile. Dr. Madnani performs his facelifts with local anesthesia, resulting in a shorter recovery period than those performed under general anesthesia. Recovery period is generally only 7-10 days.

Neck Lift

If your signs of aging are primarily located around the neck area, a neck lift may be the procedure that offers you the best results. This procedure specifically focuses on creating a smoother, more youthful transition from the jawline to the chest. Specifically, it will address the following concerns:

  • Sagging skin around the jawline and neck
  • Loss of definition in the jawline
  • Loose skin under the chin that creates a “turkey wattle” appearance
  • The formation of a double chin due to redundant skin and excess tissue
  • Horizontal bands that form around the neck

Like other lift procedures, a neck lift can be performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia for most patients. The incisions for a neck lift are placed underneath the chin or behind the ears to minimize post-operative scarring. Through the incisions, extra skin and tissue are removed to create a smoother, sleeker neck contour.

Dr. Madnani is highly experienced in all of these lift procedures and will help you determine which surgery will provide you with the best possible outcome. In some cases, a combination of procedures may offer the best results. To learn more about the lift procedures available, contact Madnani Facial Plastics today at (332) 216-0176 or (516)299-9861.
